Agartala, February 27 (TIWN): With the onset of the dry season, diarrhea and gastroenteritis have started stalking the deep interior tribal villages in Gandacherra sub-division. According to preliminary reports, most affected is children. Eruption of enteric and diarrhea are most common diseases during dry spell in remote tribal localities. Drinking of contaminated water from the streams due to drying up of regular water sources have led to diseases resulting in casualties every year. Sources informed that two children are reported dead due to the affect of this disease.

 In Harachandra Para of Raishyabari ADC Village, 10 months old Ramesh Tripura and two and half year’s old girl Mochanti Tripura become the victims of this disease. In case of Ramesh, after he fell ill, the doctor of Gandacherra hospital referred him to GBP Hospital. But the father of Ramesh, Uday Chand Tripura and his family decided not to shift  him at  GBP. Instead,  they  continued treatment in the home. But the decision fell  flat on them and Ramesh  breathed his last. Similarly, Mochanti died of diarrhea on Wednesday.

The facts behind this are that during the dry spell, people of the remote village’s faces acute scarcity of water. It is called that water is the foundation of life. And still today, all across the state, far too many people spend their entire day searching for it. In places hilly areas of the state, time lost gathering water and suffering from waterborne diseases is limiting people's true potential.

Women and girls of the mentioned districts and also other rural parts of the state Tripura bear the burden of walking miles at a time to gather water from streams and ponds full of water­borne disease that is making them and their families sick. And also it is nothing new for the state govt. who always being back tracked from supplying drinking water to the rural Tripura and often says the state is developing fast, in terms of education, and health. Is this called the “Golden Era” that lacks the basic needs for the villagers of the state?

Another point which must reflected that these tribal helmets feels scary to face undergo treatment in Government Hospitals. Inspite of that they found it preferable to receive health facility at home. As a result, the information about their disease is unknown to the administration. So, togetherly contaminated water and lack of education is the leading cause of deaths due to water borne diseases in Tripura.
