AGARTALA, February 21 (TIWN): The Assembly has unanimously adopted a resolution requesting the Union Ministry for Rural Development for immediate release of at least Rs. 500 crore during current fiscal for year under flagship programme PMGSY. The Union Rural Development Ministry has emphasized for completion of all the works under PMGSY in the state within March, 2017 and release of an amount of Rs. 600 crore per year was assured.Constructions and up-gradation of 2120 km road is to be completed by March, 2017 and more than Rs. 1500 crore would be required to be released by MoRD. Most of the works have already been sanctioned by MoRD and execution is progressing in full swing. The Union Rural Development Ministry has released Rs. 185.73 crore to Tripura Rural Roads Development Agency (TRRDA) so far. The TRRDA has already incurred an expenditure of Rs. 370 Crore by temporary arranging funds from other accounts and atleast Rs. 200 crore would be required during the February and March.
Based on a tripartite agreement between Union Ministry of Rural Development, state government’s PWD, National Building Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC), Hindustan Steelworks Construction Limited (HSCL), the NBCC and HSCL are assigned to implement the PMGSY works in state in collaboration PWD.
Due to fund constraints, they have slowed down the progress and the works may be stopped if proper fund flow is not there.
As a result, the Tripura Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution requesting the Union Ministry for Rural Development for immediate release of at least Rs. 500 crore during current fiscal (2014-15) for the implementation of pending works under PMGSY.
