AGARTALA, Dec 30 (TIWN): An active member of the Bangladeshi militant group "Imam Mahmude Kafla" was arrested in Agartala's Joypur area. In a joint operation by Tripura Police, Assam Police, and other collaborating units, Jagir Mia (33), son of Hanif Mia, a resident of Joypur area under West Police Station, was arrested on the morning of December 30, 2025.
The arrested individual was absconding in connection with STF Police Station Case No. 06/2025, dated December 28, 2025. He faces charges under Sections 143/147/148/149/150/152/113(5) of the BNS, 2023, and Sections 10/13/16/38/39/40 of the UAPA, 1967.
The investigation revealed that Jagir Mia is an active member of a sub-organization called "Imam Mahmude Kafla," which is an ideological offshoot of JMB (Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh).
"Imam Mahmuder Kafela" (IMK), also referred to as "Imam Mahmud's caravan group," is a recently identified militant organization operating in Bangladesh. The group is named after its leader, Mahmud, who is also known by aliases such as Jewel Ali, Jewel Mahmud, and Habibullah Mahmud.
IMK remained largely unknown until August 2023, when Bangladeshi authorities arrested Mahmud and over 40 other members. The group's physically challenged leader, Mahmud, was previously associated with the banned terrorist organization Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). Many followers reportedly sold all their assets to join the group in the name of a supposed 'hijrat' (migration).
