AGARTALA, Oct 17 (TIWN): A bribery allegation has rocked the administrative circles of Tripura, with the Unakoti District Contractors' Association accusing an Executive Engineer of the Water Resources Development Department's Division-6, Ranjay Debbarma, of demanding a 20% commission from contractors in exchange for releasing payments.
The association's leaders held a press conference at Unakoti Kalakhetra, alleging corruption and claiming that the engineer was using his position to tarnish the government's image. They have given the engineer a 48-hour ultimatum to provide proof of his claims, failing which they will take legal action.
The controversy has raised questions about the state's administrative transparency, with the opposition demanding action against the accused engineer. The incident has also sparked a debate about the alleged nexus between officials and contractors in the state.
