AGARTALA, Sep 6 (TIWN): Locals in Shantir Bazar subdivision's ITI College area have protested against the alleged illegal extraction of soil from government land. On Saturday, residents stopped a contractor, Raju Dutta, from extracting soil using two dozers and six to seven tipper trucks.
The locals alleged that Raju Dutta was extracting soil without proper authorization. According to sources, Raju Dutta is using the soil for construction purposes, specifically for filling land for a morgue at the Shantir Bazar district hospital.
The locals claimed that this is not the first instance of illegal soil extraction in the area, and several contractors have been involved in similar activities in the past. Raju Dutta allegedly claimed to have influential connections with the ruling party, which intimidated the locals.
Despite their frustration, the locals refrained from speaking to the media due to fear. However, their protest forced Raju Dutta's vehicles to flee the scene. The locals are now demanding action against Raju Dutta and others involved in the illegal soil extraction. They are seeking intervention from the SDM to ensure a proper investigation and punishment for those responsible.
