AGARTALA, Aug 26 (TIWN): The Ganamancha organization submitted a memorandum to the OBC Welfare Department on Tuesday, urging the state government to take immediate action on several key demands related to the welfare of the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) community. The demands include passing a bill in the state assembly to provide reservation for OBCs, implementing 27% reservation in central educational institutions, and providing stipends to OBC students.
The memorandum also calls for establishing hostels for OBC students in each district and sub-division, including the Acharya and Modak communities in the central OBC list, and conducting a caste-based census to determine the actual population of OBCs in Tripura. The organization has warned that if these demands are not met within the next two to three months, they will launch a larger movement.
The Ganamancha's demands are aimed at addressing the socio-economic disparities faced by the OBC community, which constitutes around 40% of the state's population. The organization's efforts are focused on ensuring that the OBC community receives its rightful share of representation and benefits in education, employment, and other areas.
