AGARTALA, Aug 25 (TIWN): In a significant breakthrough, the Churai Bari Watch Post police in Tripura's Bazarichhara area seized 30,430 bottles of cough syrup, valued at approximately ?3 crore, in an anti-narcotics operation. The police intercepted a six-wheeler truck carrying miscellaneous goods from Kolkata, and upon inspection, found the cough syrup hidden in food oil tins.
The truck's driver, Haminur Islam, and co-driver, Sheikh Alammin, both residents of West Bengal's 24 Parganas district, were arrested. The police have registered a case under the NDPS Act and initiated an investigation.
According to reports, these cough syrups are in high demand in neighboring Bangladesh, where they are sold for ?1,000 to ?1,200 per bottle. The seizure highlights the alleged widespread practice of smuggling these substances into Bangladesh through Tripura.
This successful operation demonstrates the Tripura police's commitment to combating narcotics trafficking.
