DHARMANAGAR, Aug 21 (TIWN): Locals in Bagbasa Gram Panchayat's Shonichhara 1 Ward staged a protest against a road and box culvert construction project, detaining the site manager of the construction company, SS Enterprise. The protesters alleged widespread irregularities in the project, which involves rebuilding a 4.5 km stretch of road from Tata Motors area to Ganganagar at a cost of nearly Rs 5 crore.
The residents claim that the construction work has caused immense hardship, including disruption of drinking water supply, closure of the road without providing an alternative route, and damage to nearby ponds and water bodies. They also allege that the construction materials and technology used are substandard, with thin iron rods (8mm and 10mm) being used instead of the required heavy-duty rods.
The protesters have demanded that the construction company improves the quality of work and addresses their grievances. If their demands are not met, they threaten to launch a larger movement, including road blockades. The residents are determined to ensure that the road construction project is completed with quality and transparency, and that their rights are protected.
