AGARTALA, Aug 18 (TIWN): The CPI(M) Kailashahar Sub-Divisional Committee organized a one-hour symbolic road blockade in Singirbil area to protest the deplorable condition of the newly constructed National Highway 208.
Although the blockade caused significant traffic congestion, the road was opened for ambulances and school-going students. After the blockade, District Secretary Krishnendu Chowdhury alleged that the national highway's deterioration within a year was due to substandard work and commission-based corruption.
He also claimed that the project, approved during the UPA government's tenure, was delayed due to political reasons. Krishnendu Chowdhury further accused that almost every sector in the state is now plagued by corruption. The CPI(M) leadership warned that they may take to the streets in a bigger way if necessary.
