AGARTALA, Aug 16 (TIWN): The Unakoti District Hospital has taken a significant leap forward in healthcare services with the launch of Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) and Prime Minister Bhartiya Janaushadhi Yojana (PMBJAY) on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day.
State Minister for Social Welfare and Youth Affairs, Tinku Roy, formally inaugurated these services, marking a new era in healthcare for the district.
The SNCU will provide specialized and modern medical care to newborns, which is expected to significantly reduce infant mortality rates. The PMBJAY counter will enable the poor and general public to access quality generic medicines at government rates, reducing treatment costs and making medicines more accessible.
The launch of these services is a fulfillment of the government's promise and a long-standing demand of the Unakoti district residents. The event was attended by Unakoti District Council Chairperson Amalenendu Das, District Magistrate Tamal Majumdar, Superintendent of Police Sudhambika R, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sirshendu Chakma, District Health Officer Dr. Sanjay Rudra Pal, and Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Rohan Pal, among others. The local community is hopeful that these services will benefit not only Unakoti but also the surrounding districts.
