AGARTALA, Aug 13 (TIWN): CPI-M backed Sanjukta Kishan Morcha organized a protest rally on Wednesday, demanding India should not be a part of global free trade in the agriculture sector. According to CPI-M leader Pabitra Kar, it’s an intrigue to sell farmers’ products to the corporates in foreign countries. “We fought to stop the agriculture from handing over to corporates and bound the Modi government to cancel three farm laws, and now, as the government could not amend those laws, it’s eyeing the second option and that is to handover our agriculture to the foreign corporate sector,” alleged Kar.
“Already the deal is completed with Britain, and now America is threatening to add Indian farm products to its trade-partnership along with other European allies on their condition,” said Kar. “If the deal happens, then our products like milk, crops, fish, meat, fruits, vegetables, and dry food will all go to those countries at a cheap cost. Our market will face a loss because they will bring our market down.”
“That’s why today, we are protesting against the move of the Modi Govt,” he told the media during a rally organized in Agartala.
