Agartala, July 14 (TIWN): The body of 19-year-old Sneha Debnath, a second-year student of Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, Delhi University, was recovered from the Yamuna River near the Geeta Colony flyover on Sunday evening, July 13, 2025. Sneha, who hailed from Tripura, had gone missing six days ago, sparking a massive search operation by the Delhi Police and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

Sneha was last in contact with her family on July 7, 2025, at around 5:56 am. She had told her mother that she was heading to Sarai Rohilla railway station to drop off her friend. However, her friend later confirmed that she never met Sneha that day. A cab driver, who came forward after the news broke out, revealed that he had dropped Sneha off at the Signature Bridge in north Delhi.

The Delhi Police launched a search operation in the Yamuna River near the Signature Bridge on July 9, 2025, but initially, no signs of Sneha were found. The NDRF joined the search efforts, scouring a 7-kilometer stretch of the Yamuna River from Nigam Bodh Ghat to Noida. Despite the extensive search, Sneha's body was only recovered on Sunday evening, July 13, 2025.

A handwritten note was found in Sneha's hostel room, indicating her intention to end her life. The note read, "I just feel like a failure and burden, and it was getting unbearable to live like this." Based on the investigation and the note, police believe that Sneha jumped off the Signature Bridge into the Yamuna River.

The investigation faced a significant hurdle due to non-functional CCTV cameras on and around the Signature Bridge. Sneha's family and friends have raised concerns about the lack of surveillance infrastructure in the area, which they believe could have helped in locating her earlier. DCP (Outer North) Joy Tirkey led the investigation efforts, with the police working tirelessly to locate Sneha.

Sneha's family has expressed profound grief and frustration over the delayed response. Her father, a retired Army officer undergoing dialysis, voiced his concern about the non-functional CCTV cameras at Signature Bridge, which he believes could have helped in locating his daughter earlier. The Chief Minister of Tripura has expressed condolences to Sneha's family and directed the Tripura Bhavan in New Delhi to provide all necessary assistance to them during this difficult time.
