AGARTALA, July 11 (TIWN): Tripura Congress activist Sahajahan Islam, who released a controversial video during Eid on social media against Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, accusing him of failing to uphold minority's rights, has been facing criminal charges. Whereas police could not arrest Sahajahan yet, his father Nazrul Islam and brother Khairul Islam were arrested. Today court has bailed out the arrested family members of the Congress youth leader after they spent 1 month in jail.

Senior Congress leader, Advocate Pijush Kanti Biswas, represented the petitioners in the West District Court along with other advocates who teamed up to support the party members.

A counter FIR was also filed against BJP activists who allegedly attacked Sahajahan's home, centering on his live video. 

"The BJP miscreants attacked the family, and the same victims have been sent to jail. Sahajahan's mother lodged a counter FIR, which revealed their house was badly damaged. I have told the court that this is a state-sponsored Terrorism," said Biswas.

"When the attack took place, Congress leaders Asish Saha, Sudip Barman visited their home, and the miscreants attacked them too. Anyhow, they were rescued from the place, and the incident left police officials also injured," said Biswas. "But police did not take any action against the miscreants."

"Today, the case was raised before the Court after previous hearings. The PP, who should be talking for both parties, was only fighting the other party's case," Biswas said. "PP was acting as the defense lawyer of the accused related to the counter case."

However, after 1 month 1 day, the court today released the family members of Sahajahan.

"Many questions could not be answered by the state government side," Pijush Biswas told media.
