AGARTALA, July 11 (TIWN): Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited organized a press meet to convey a positive message about Smart meters amid statewide protests against them. Consumers are demanding the restoration of the old meter system, as Smart meters are adding abnormal bills. In a press meet, TSECL Director Biswajit Basu faced tough questions about the corporation’s poor services, which he said would be resolved with the Smart meters. While journalists asked him why it takes 4 to 5 hours for the TSECL employees to reach a spot, he said that now Smart meter will help to understand where the power is not down.

Basu was also asked about TSECL’s poor customer care services. Responding to the question, he said these Smart meters are meant to reduce the load on customer care.
Basu also argued that there is no shortage of employees under TSECL, disagreeing with the allegation that there is any manpower crisis.
