Bishramganj, June 30 (TIWN): In a significant breakthrough, the Bishramganj Police Station has arrested two individuals, Pankaj Das and Tapas Das, for allegedly stealing construction materials from the ongoing government-funded rehabilitation center in Bishramganj.
The accused, cousins from Melaghar, were apprehended at the Bishramganj Railway Station on Monday while attempting to flee to another state.
The duo had been evading authorities since a case was filed against them by government contractor Swapan Chandra Dey three months ago. During the investigation, the police recovered 8,800 kg of rods and 400 feet of stones from their residence, but some cement remains unaccounted for.
The accused were produced before the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Court, which granted a five-day police remand to facilitate further investigation. According to Officer-in-Charge Subimal Debnath, the investigation aims to uncover more details about the crime and identify potential accomplices.
The successful operation highlights the Bishramganj Police's commitment to protecting public property and holding those responsible accountable.
