AGARTALA, May 30 (TIWN): Ahead of Jamai Shashti, fish reached from the neighboring country Bangladesh to Tripura. However, due to the strained relationship between the two countries, this year, fish arrived in significantly smaller amounts than before, affecting the local markets here. The Hilsa fish prices rose to Rs. 2,000 ahead of Jamai Shashti due to the shortage in the supplies, said a fish seller at Battala market in Agartala.
Businessmen are facing losses due to constant rain in the region, which has reduced the number of customers in comparison with the previous years.
"The rush of fish buyers is less this year so far, because of the weather," said a fish seller. "Hopefully, the rush will increase once the weather improves."
Due to incessant rain, the government has opened relief camps in various parts of the states. The adverse weather is affecting the market conditions in this festive season.
