AGARTALA, February 8 (TIWN): Monarchak SOLAR Power plant on Saturday generated another 0.63 MW of power taking a total of 2.4 MW of power, said NEEPCO Project Head SR Biswas today. Beside the Monarchak gas based thermal power project started taking gas from ONGC and conducting certain tests to ensure uninterrupted power generation.Talking to TIWN today NEEPCO Project Head S R Biswas said that the Monarchak Gas based thermal power project has already started taking gas from the ONGC. “Monarchak will take another month of time to get the gas based thermal power plant srynchonised”, said Biswas. Adding to that Biswas said that currently the Monarchak is conducting certain tests to ensure better power generation from the plant. The Monarchak is also checking the quality of gas that the ONGC had already charged on its pipeline from Sonamura Khedabari to Monarchak. To ensure quality gas Monarchak is injecting gas to the equipment of the power plant, said Biswas.

It may be mentioned here that the ONGC recently had charged its pipeline with gas for Monarchak gas based thermal power plant.
The pipeline from Sonamura Khedabari up to Monarchak has been charged. Earlier the ONGC charged gas in 16” – 21 km line from Gas Metering Station of Palatana to Khedabari in Sonamura subdivision in the 1st phase.
However, later asked about the current status of the recently commissioned North East’s biggest SOLAR Power plant at Monarchak, Biswas saod that today the solar power plant has generated another 0.63 MW of power taking the current figure to 2.4 MW.
"We started generation of power from the solar power plant from Wednesday. The full (5-MW) commercial generation would start within a month after completing some technicalities," said Biswas.
The solar power plant was commissioned at a cost of Rs.40 crore. The entire power from the plant would be transmitted to the Tripura power grid.
The foundation stone of the Monarchak power project was laid during the previous National Democratic Alliance government in March 2002 and the Tripura government allotted the required land to NEEPCO in 2003.
The Rokhia and Baramura gas-based power plants in Tripura are at present in the open cycle system. Both the power plants would be converted into the combined cycle mode to generate additional power without using extra fuel, Biswas said.
"Currently, both plants are generating 103 MW and after conversion into the combined cycle mode, their capacity would be 163 MW," he said.
