AGARTALA, Feb 5 (TIWN): The Tribal Welfare Dept has organized an inter-state football competition at Umakanta Stadium on the birth anniversary of tribal leader Birsa Munda. A total of 16 teams are participating in the competition. Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury inaugurated Bhagwan Birsa Munda Football Tournament, 2025 (State Level Inter ST Hostel Football Competition) at Umakanta Academy Stadium, Agartala.
AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma were also present on the occasion.
“Sports is the only way which can free the society from drug addictions. Out of many initiatives taken by our government, this is another program organized by the Tribal Welfare department to free the society from drug abuses,” said Minister Sushanta Chowdhury. “Bhagaban Birsa Munda is considered as a God by the tribal society and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also respects Birsa Munda as God. He is the idol who can take society in the correct direction.”
