AGARTALA, Sep 15 (TIWN): Tripura Tribal Welfare Dept Minister Bikash Debbarma’s unprecedented claim of being an inheritor of a 'Zameendar' ancestry and his turnouts of crores of business before joining in politics has failed to satisfy the queries about a Govt document showing the Minister has used Tribal Welfare Dept fund for constructing boundary wall in his one of the properties. The statement also contradicts his self-declaration in 2023 election candidature affidavit showing the Minister and his wife were having ‘Zero’ earnings and 'Zero' liabilities.
The Tripura Minister is in a tightrope situation after opposition Congress MLA Sudip Barman accused him of being a corrupt Minister, who purchased flats, and constructed multiple houses, and owned petrol pumps within a year of getting into the Ministry. Sudip Barman also revealed a government document where Tribal Welfare fund was allocated to the Minister to construct a boundary wall in one of the houses.
Week After the allegations raised taking him to the top of state newspapers, the Minister finally faced the media, though during the press meet from time to time, he lost his temper, slammed journalists, and also wiped his eyes with tissues.
The Minister said, he never used any government fund for himself, although the boundary wall that he started construction is for his 'protection' which indirectly serves the public.
The Minister challenged Sudip Barman to prove all the allegations within 48 hours.
Regarding multiple flats purchased in Tripura and Delhi, Debbarma said that he purchased them in his capacity as he has been a businessman and owns the ancestry of his 'Dadu' (grandfather) who was a Zameendar in his time.
However, the Ministers failed to deny the allegations over his expenditure with Tribal Welfare fund as the documents were leaked showing the department released funds for his boundary wall construction.
During press meet, Bikash Debbarma slammed one of the journalists who asked about the boundary wall. The Minister asked, "Did I build a home with Tribal Welfare fund? I built a wall and that's for people.... because it's for my protection."
Minister Bikash Debbarma also broke down in tears amid repeated questions asked by journalists during the press meeting about his various property, saying, it’s an insult to a tribal community’s leader.
