AGARTALA, Aug 25 (TIWN): Reacting to dozens of deaths, resulted due to severe flood situations in Tripura, the Opposition Congress party accused the government of a total failure in flood preparedness which failed to generate alerts before the flood and so no proper action plan to evacuate people from the sensitive areas. From weather forecasting to other preparedness, Disaster Management failed in its role. In a press meet Congress MLA Sudip Barman said after an all-party-meeting was held with the Chief Minister.
“I have also raised the issue, that when the situation is severe, there should be a repeat of such incidents that clash erupted over donators political and NGO’s identities. Many times it happened that the opposition can’t distribute food, and few NGOs can’t help people in relief camps --- such incidents are shameful and must not be repeated. I have mentioned in the meeting,” Sudip Barman told media.
Barman further took a dig at the two BJP MPs for their total silence and living out of the state amid such flood situations.
The Congress MLA also asked, if there was a department-wise survey of losses as Minister Ratan Lal Nath mentioned over Rs. 600 crores of losses happened in Agriculture and Power Department.
He criticized whether Rs. 15,000 crores would be sufficient to compensate the people.
Barman demanded a proper survey in all such aspects so that from house to agriculture all losses can be measured.
