SONAMURA, Aug 10 (TIWN): The CPI-M party on Saturday slammed Sonamura BJP accusing the BJP party of indulging itself in mass rigging. Sonamura subdivision’s Ward No. 1 of Srimantapur Village Panchayat under Kanthalia voters were prevented and opposition parties were attacked, alleged CPI-M. CPI-M candidate Litan Mia filed a complaint against the ruling party, alleging that its miscreants attacked him and his family on Friday. He claimed that the attack was motivated by the ruling party's inability to accept their imminent defeat in the election, following the successful completion of the panchayat elections. According to eyewitnesses, Litan and his brother were assaulted at the mosque gate while returning home after Friday prayers.

Family members, including his uncle, were injured while trying to intervene. The attackers fled when local residents gathered, and the victims were taken to Sonamura Hospital for treatment. A case was filed against seven individuals, including BJP candidate Maman and others, at Sonamura Police Station.

Litan Mia recounted the incident to reporters at the CPI-M sub-divisional office on Saturday, revealing that the attackers were armed with sharp weapons and pistols.

CPI-M MLA Shyamal Chakraborty of the 22 Sonamura Assembly Constituency condemned the incident and expressed concerns about the fairness of the upcoming vote count. He demanded that the election commission ensure proper counting, with media presence and security for counting agents and opposition party representatives.

Chakraborty also criticized the police administration for failing to take action against the accused despite complaints.
