AGARTALA, February 5 (TIWN): Regional party of Tripura, the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) have started exploring ways and means of forging an electoral alliance with the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) with the crucial election to the 28-member Autonomous District Council (ADC) slated to be held on the month of May, 2015.Though none of the leaders of the regional forces have gone on record about their intention, secret parleys involving the parties have been going on.

Talking to TIWN on wednesday, the INPT General Secretary Jagadish Debbarma said that the party has not yet taken any initiative but making its way to get an alliance with IPFT. The INPT, however, is more explicit on its aim of forging an alliance with the IPFT.

The INPT, led by former militant leader Bijay Kumar Hrangkhawal as president, was formed in 2002. In the Assembly election of 2003, it had fought in alliance with the Congress and won six seats but the next Assembly election saw the party down to only one seat. In the Assembly polls held in February last year, the INPT drew a blank as even Hrangkhawal lost his seat.
However, in the aftermath of the last Lok Sabha polls, the party decided to part Company with the Congress. The INPT snapped its three-decade old alliance with Congress. INPT President Bijoy Hrangkhwal earlier said the party will keep a safe distance from all national parties for the time being and fight alone in upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) election slated for early next year. But it is mentionable here that the INPT has been making its way now to get an alliance with the IPFT and the buzz waves all around ahead of the ADC election slated to be held on the month of May, 2015.
Later asked about the party strategy for the ADC election, INPT GS Jagadish Debbarma said, “This time we will be the real contender for power in the council against the CPM”. He said that the party has taken up certain key issues for the ADC poll comprising of empowerment to TTAADC. Criticizing the left front govt. here in Tripura Mr. Debbarma said that the corruption has stand tall in the regime of the left front govt. and has now become intolerable for the people of the state amongst which the tribal people of the state has been deprived at large under the banner of the left front govt.
Adding to that he said the INPT has already kick started its preparation ahead of the ADC election with the party campaign and conference across the ADC areas. Today the party held a state conference at Ambasa, said Debbarma.
According to party source, the candidate selection process of INPT is going on in full swing right from the primary committees to divisional committees. Based on the proposals of divisional committees, INPT central committee would prepare the final candidate’s list very soon, he added. The source further added that INPT has acceptability among the tribals because since its inception, the party has been fighting for establishment of rights and talks about the sufferings of the tribal communities including creation of Inner Line Permit.
However, later talking to TIWN PCC Chief Birajit Sinha said that the party has not taken any major strategies for the ADC election. The Pradesh Congress has to be reformed from the grass root level at first because no proper policy has been found in the party, claimed Sinha today.
