Auto drivers show unruly behavior on fare chart: Drivers still follows “Give change or else high fare”; Protests swell against unfair auto fares

AGARTALA, February 3 (TIWN): The recently fixed auto-rickshaw fare charts has brought no change to the unruly auto drivers across the capital city with the drivers charging high fares if the passenger fails to give change. Beside, the drivers were witnessed to be taking fares from an individual for per km whereas the recently fixed auto-rickshaw fare chart mentioned below: “Fare for auto-rickshaw for full capacity for petrol Rs. 6.00 per kilometer and CNG Rs. 5.50 per kilometer”.

Yet even after fixing the rate charts the unruly auto drivers across the capital city Agartala, has been found charging fare from a single passenger whereas the rate charts were issued that has clearly mentioned to take Rs. 5.50 per kilometer for full capacity. But most surprisingly as part of the long going trend here at the capital city Agartala, the unruly auto – rickshaw drivers yet after the enforcement of the new rate charts, has been witnessed to be charging high and unfair fare, whereas the passengers keeps their protests swell against it. Beside the trend of “Give change or else high fare” still prevails. Therefore it is mentionable here that the new rate charts has brought no change to the unruly auto drivers and has kept same for the deprived passengers.

However following this talking to TIWN today, Transport Secretary Samarjit Bhowmik expressing his displeasure over the act of the unruly auto drivers said that recently the department has directed the DM, SDM, Traffic SP along with the Police officers and others to enforce the rules as soon as possible in order to restrict the deprivation of the passengers.

A section of deprived passengers today alleged that even after the implementation of the new rate chart, the unruly auto drivers has been charging extremely high fares, while the state govt. has been playing a negative role to bring the situation under control. “Paying high fares to the auto drivers has become a trend now and has brought severe hurdles for us”, alleged the passengers.

The warning by the state govt. and the recent verdict of the HC to fix a rate chart on the three wheelers and others seems to have bowed down in front of the unruly auto drivers here at the capital city. It is mentionable here that inspite of giving show off warnings the state govt. supposed to have save the deprived passengers from the hand of the unruly auto drivers.
