AGARTALA, June 26 (TIWN): Newly elected India’s leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi in his speech delivered before the parliament on Wednesday congratulated the newly elected speaker Om Birla. At the same time, he left a clear and loud message to the speaker to allow the opposition represent the voice of India and not to supress the opposition’s voice. The statement came amid massive allegations against the last parliamentary period which was occupied mostly but the ruling parties MPs ended up with massive numbers of opposition MPs’ suspensions.
In the parliament today, Gandhi said, "I am confident that you will allow us to represent our voice, allow us to speak, and allow us to represent the voice of the people of India. The question is not how efficiently the House is run. The question is how much of India's voice is being allowed to be heard in this House. The idea that you can run the House efficiently by silencing the voice of the Opposition is non-democratic. This election has shown that the people of India expect the Opposition to defend the Constitution.”
“We believe that this will continue without any discrimination and as Lok Sabha Speaker you will give equal opportunities and respect to every member and party," he added.
