NEW DELHI, June 8 : In a significant development, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Saturday passed a resolution urging Rahul Gandhi to assume the role of Leader of Opposition in the 18th Lok Sabha. According to Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal, the CWC has unanimously requested Rahul Gandhi to take the position, citing his ability to lead the campaign inside Parliament. Venugopal also hinted at a revival of Congress, stating that the atmosphere in the CWC has changed significantly since four months ago.
"The people of India have spoken... the Congress has been given another chance, and it is now up to us to build on it," he said.
When asked about vacating either the Wayanad or Raebareli seat, Venugopal revealed that the decision will be made on or before June 17. "It's obvious that one can hold only one seat. Both the seats are very close to him. So the decision will be made soon," he said.
The CWC meeting was attended by several senior leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi, and D.K. Shivakumar.
