AGARTALA, March 10 (TIWN): Tripura Minister Animesh Debbarma, who joined the BJP Govt’s cabinet recently after his Tipra Motha party aligned with the BJP, defined the term “son of the soil”. He claimed, just because someone has born before 30 years in a place, it does not mean that person will be considered as "son of the soil". "Son of the soil" refers to the people, who are living in a place since age-old time.

The Minister was talking about the tripartite agreement which was signed between Tipra Motha, Govt of India and Govt of Tripura.
After CPI-M state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury questioned, why there is no mention about any Greater Tipraland or Constitutional solution, the Minister has remarked that. He said, the Greater Tipraland will be for the son of the soil and the agreement was dedicated to develop the son of the soil and assured to constituting working group to check the land and other rights of the people.
He also said, even though the agreement does not talk about Greater Tipraland directly but it has not prohibited the demand of Greater Tipraland. The demand will continue to be raised for the “son of the soil”.
