Agartala, January 30 (TIWN): A workshop on implementation of National School Safety Programme (NSSP) was staged at the Matangini Pritilata Sava Griha (Women’s College) here today. District Magistrate and Collector (DM&C), West district- Abhishek Singh inaugurated the workshop by lighting ceremonial lamp while District Education Officer (DEO), West- AK Reang delivered welcome address.
The state-level presentation on implementation of NSSP was displayed by SPO (SDMA)- Sarat Das while West district-level presentation was given by DCP- Sushil Kumar Raha respectively.
Altogether 30 students and 10 teachers from five schools have been trained for rescue and first aid, said an official. Several mock drill and training programmes were conducted involving Fire Service, Red Cross and Civil Defense and the students of 15 schools at Raniganj Girls HS School and MTB Girls HS School in November 2013 and February, last year, he added.
During the workshop, a representative informed that for the proper implementation of National School Safety Programme, the District Education Office adopted various actions including identification of four nodal centre in West district with distribution of 150 schools- MTB Girls School (AMC) for 45 schools, Ranigaon HS School (Jirania) for 25 schools, Mohanpur class-XII School for 44 schools and Amtali HS School (Dukli) for 36 schools.
Besides, arrangement of training on school safety with two teachers (Male and Female) from each identified school in their respective nodal centre, arrangement of training for all the school staffs by trained teachers, awareness programme with the students, mock drill in 3rd Saturday of each month and distribution of fund to all identified schools as per guideline received from DM&C-West have been completed.
Adding to it, preparation of school disaster management plan by the school to send it to the office of DM& Collector, awareness programme and training with the elementary teachers in every block of undivided West Tripura district providing Red Cross and experts from CTI have already been made.
“Our target is to prepare the future citizens (students) to be trained on disaster management through school safety programme, so that they can protect themselves and others from any disaster and to disseminate it from school from community”, said an official source.
