AGARTALA, Nov 25 (TIWN): Thousands of stakeholders were affected due to the devastating fire accident in Battala. Over 250 shops were gutted in the fire incident on Sunday late night. Chief Minister Manik Saha visited the area, and assured that the State Govt will provide full support to the businessmen. “We will make sure that the businessmen can start their business once again and immediately. I appreciate the Fire Brigade staff for their efforts and urgent action; otherwise, the fire could have spread to more and burned various parts of the city”, said CM.
“Most likely, a short circuit has caused the fire incident. This is unprecedented and unfortunate”, said CM Manik Saha, who was accompanied by AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder and many Govt officials.
Opposition CPI-M leaders also visited the shop. They raised question over Govt’s preparedness for such incidents, asking how the fire at a time destroyed over 250 shops. They doubted the urgent role of fire department that was claimed to be modernized.
Businessmen who were earning livelihood by selling vegetables and groceries lost everything in the market. Shopkeepers were in tears, left devastated after the incident.
