AGARTALA, Oct 8 (TIWN): BJP Govt’s tall promises about stipend to meritorious students of Tripura for B.Ed degree is now in question marks. Students are forced to go in protest seeking their stipend as for some students, the exams are ahead and they are unable to sit in exams whereas on the other hand, some passed out students are unable to clear the loans in Banks. A student broke down while protesting, said, “Either give us poison or give us stipend. We are under heavy stress”. The students took admission in B.Ed colleges with Tripura Govt’s initiative and promise of giving stipends, but after many months passed, no stipend was given and only 10% stipend was given to the students. Demanding immediate stipend clearance, the students staged protest.

Many SC category students who have completed B.Ed under state government initiative have not got a single stipend yet. On Saturday, the deprived students placed deputation to the Director of SC Welfare. Earlier also, many times the deprived candidates submitted their appeals in written forms to get their stipend but no payment was cleared. Many students had to take loan during the semesters and now they are facing Bank’s pressure to clear the loans.

Thus, on Saturday the students were bound to revisit the office seeking their stipends.

Talking to the students, they said, the authorities are giving promises every time that they will be given stipends within a few days but every time, their promises end up without any result.

The students staged a protest in front of the director's room at SC Welfare Department. Later they spoke to officials but nothing was resolved.
