AGARTALA, June 30 (TIWN): After 7 people died in the major accident took place in Kumarghat Rath festival, and many were hospitalized, ISKCON finally has come up with an official statement but has ruled out the wood and iron like materials’ debate saying, the people died of earthing. “People died due to earthing and the ground was electrified. Some kids were there when the accident was about to happen and their parents rushed to save their children and in that incident, people including women died. I do not think, there should be any debate over materials uses in the Rath because there is no prohibition. With time, things change and uses of iron in Rath should not be even discussed”.
After Tragic incident of Kumarghat Rath festival, ISKCON committee declared free education for the bereaved families.
The ISKCON authority however added, "Whether permission was taken by Kumarghat ISKCON from the authority or not it's not sure".
At least seven persons lost their lives and five are still critical including children in Kumarghat Rath Jatra festival where due to electric wire’s collapse with high voltage 6 died on spot and 1 yesterday died in GB hospital. Today, all the dead bodies were handed over to the families. Devastated families’ screaming in the cremation ground was heartbreaking and mass gathering happened there during the cremation. Many elderly parents who shared the deaths of their young children left speechless.
As per the primary report, due to height of the Rath it had crashed with the electric wire and the power was not cut during the program and the electric wire with high voltage collapsed on the devotees who were standing in front of the Rath. They were spot dead.
