Kailashahar Hospital Vandalism, Attack on Doctor : Public agitated alleging ‘Police Arresting Innocent People, Instead of Criminals’

KAILASHAHAR, June 28 (TIWN): Doctors of Kanika Memorial Hospital in Singirbil area of Kailashahar were being harassed, attacked and according to the locals the police are arresting the innocent people of the village instead of the real criminals in connection with the vandalism of the hospital. Enraged against this inhumane act of police, the women of Mailong ADC Village surrounded the Kailasahar police station and staged a protest. Due to this, there is intense tension in the entire Kailashahar sub-division. It is to be noted that on Sunday night, June 25th of this month, a total of six pedestrians were hit by a car accident in the Bhikarai area of Mailong ADC Village in Kailashahar.

After the killer car ran away, the local villagers rescued the six pedestrians and brought them to the Kanika Memorial Hospital in Singirbil area for treatment. The doctor on duty, Dr. Satyajit Datta declared that two persons are already dead. He said and as the condition of two persons is critical, those two persons were sent to Unakoti District Hospital and the remaining two were kept at Kanika Memorial Hospital.

Later, the villagers got agitated and beat up the doctor on duty at the hospital, Dr. Satyajit Datta, and vandalized the hospital ambulance and smashed everything including the hospital furniture.

Later, on June 26th Monday, when a case was filed on behalf of the health department regarding this vandalism.

The police arrested five people in the village for the past two days. The villagers claimed that these five arrested persons are currently in jail in Kailashahar and are innocent.

Demanding their release, the villagers surrounded the Kailasahar police station and started protesting at 12 noon on Wednesday, June 28. Mainly the women of Mailong ADC Village area surrounded the police station and staged a protest.

The protestors later called off the protest after high-rank police officers talked to them.
