‘Krishak Sabha’ General Secretary demands compensation for Farmers, Post Poll Affected People of Tripura

AGARTALA, April 26 (TIWN): Biju Krishnan, General Secretary of All India Krishak' Sabha on Wednesday while addressing media in Agartala highlighted on the post poll violence. In addition, the various demands accepted in the meeting of the All India Farmers' Meeting held yesterday were presented to the state government through the press conference.

The demands are as follows :

(1) The Government should provide assistance to those farmers who have suffered any other loss including crops, rubber, cattle etc by miscreants.

(2) Agricultural lands and ponds are being forcibly filled up all over the state. As a result, a crisis is being felt. Govt must focus on to control the crisis of food and fish etc.

(3) Adequate provision of fertilizers and pesticides should be made by the government.

(4) Rice cultivation should be resumed under SRI system.

(5) All irrigation reservoirs should be made operational.

(6) The process of cow breeding should be restarted and specific personnel should be employed (door step) for this purpose.

(7) Nagichhara agricultural farm should be revived. ICRK and 8 science centers should be actively developed.

(8) MGNREGA and Tuep should be introduced for all agricultural operations including planting of paddy, selection of paddy fields, harvesting of paddy.

(9) Necessary officers and staff should be appointed in Agriculture Department and Horticulture Department.

(10) Tripura Autonomous District Council 125th Amendment Bill should be passed in Parliament immediately. Kakborok language should be included in the 8th schedule in the constitution.

(11) The Forest Department should take a proactive role and provide one-time help to all Jumia farmers to protect farmers' crops and Jumia crops from wild animals elephants and monkeys. Necessary measures should be taken to protect crops from rats.

(12) A lot of land could not be cultivated due to lack of irrigation this year. All the affected farming families should be given adequate compensation. Farmers affected by drought, floods and natural calamities should be helped by the government.

(13) Paddy purchase-centres should be increased including tribal areas, arrangements for purchase should be made as the crop matures.

(14) Seeds, fertilizers and pesticides should be given free of cost to the farmers of Juhm.

(15) Patta recipient farmers shall not be evicted from their land. Farming should be helped through various government schemes.

According to, All India Kisan Sabha Tripura State Committee the crimes after poll include :

(1) Murder – 07, (2) Physically assaulted – 1427, (3) House burnt down – 84, (4) Houses partially burnt – 86, (5) House vandalizing – 16,  (6) Home invasion - 108
