KAILASHAHAR, March 25 (TIWN): Syamalini Banerjee, a TCS officer of the then Tripura government formed a society in the year 2000 with aiming about 70 families to become self-reliant in fisheries on the east side of the century-old 14 Goddess temple in Khawrabil village panchayat of Kailasahar.
King Indra Manikya was ruled the state from the Khawrabil area in this Khaurabil panchayat. In 2000, Shyamlima Banerjee formed the association with 70 families and registered it in 2002. The ex-TCS officer is also a resident of that area.
After that, the land was excavated and a huge reservoir was built for fish farming. Later several places were left for various tasks due to some problems. Since then, the people of the association approached the government every year for various facilities, but they did not get any facilities, except for fishing equipment.
It is learned that when the reservoir was created, an agreement was made through the association that owner of the land would have a share in the amount of land he had. It has been going like this for 23 years. Till date no dispute has arisen in this association regarding partnership or sharing of money from sale of fish.
Currently, the reservoir has been leased for two years for Rs 48 lakh. It is known that the manager of the association and member of the panchayat association, Durlabh Ram Namah, has been running the association with everyone in a very nice and orderly manner since the establishment of the association.
Durlabh Ram Naam said that a few years ago it was heard that the government would develop various things to attract tourists including speed boards in addition to fisheries to convert the place into a tourist destination. But till date the government has been indifferent to promote the place in tourism sector.
Even during the first tenure of the current government, this association has repeatedly visited several government places to promote this water body, but the current government is also indifferent about this water body.
