AGARTALA, March 22 (TIWN): The problem of wild elephants is not new in Teliamura sub-division. Several elephant-prone areas under Teliamura are frequented by herds of wild elephants almost daily and several deaths have been reported in the Teliamura sub-division in the past after attacks by wild trunk elephants. Despite this, the forest department is not taking any permanent measures to solve the problem of elephants.
One was critically injured and several others were slightly injured in a wild elephant attack late on Tuesday night. The incident took place in Champlai area under East Lakshmipur ADC Village.
According to details of the incident, one person was seriously injured and several others were slightly injured in the attack on a wild tusk elephant in the Champlai area under Teliamura Sub-Divisional Forest Department in East Lakshmipur ADC Village late on Tuesday night.
The name of the seriously injured person is Arun Debbarma. Later, the local people after witnessing the incident, immediately rescued the man who was seriously injured in the attack of the elephant and brought him to the emergency department of Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital. Presently the injured man is being treated there.
On the other hand, it was informed by the forest department that radio collars are being fitted on the elephants to monitor their movements in the wild. But according to a reliable source, the Khowai District Forest Department, not a single wild elephant has been radio-collared yet.
