AGARTALA, Feb 24 (TIWN): Various areas under Teliamura Forest Department have become restless due to the disturbances of wild tusk elephants. The herd of wild tusk elephants destructing in the locality almost every day during night hours, and the forest Department is allegedly playing Zero role in protecting the local people under Teliamura. As a result, the helpless poor villagers in elephant-prone installed high-voltage electric cables near their houses to survive. But the forest department staff, with the help of Teliamura police and electricity department staff conducted special raids in several areas including Madhyakrishnapur, Bhumihin colony under the Teliamura forest department, and cut the high voltage electric wires installed next to the houses of the villagers.
Centering the removal of electric wire, huge angst was generated among the villagers as the electric wire was set up to protect themselves from the wild tusk elephants. The villagers are suffering from the fear of life, now. Residents claim that since the electric cable has been removed, the forest department should adopt an alternative route to protect them.
However, when asked to know about this from the head of the forest department to the high-ranking officials of the forest workers, they are reluctant to open their mouths for some unknown reason.
Now, it is to be seen what action the Forest Department will take to protect the local people.
Question also raises why no electric post as street light could not be provided by the Govt in the area.
