AGARTALA, Jan 21 (TIWN): Tripura High Court senior Advocate, Human Rights Organization’s Secretary Purushottom Roy Barman on Saturday while addressing Tiranga rally of the Secular and Democratic forces said, “Nothing is more important now than to Save the Constitution and Voting rights of people”.

“It is a historical day when people of Agartala on behalf of all the voters of Tripura have come forward to save the voting rights of all. Today’s rally is not a rally of any political party. It is a rally to save voting rights and to secure the freedom of speech”, said Purushottom Roy Barman.

“We know on 16th February, Tripura Assembly Election is to be held. Needless to say that in the last 5 years, Tripura has turned into a graveyard of Democracy. Here voters are knife-attacked, ahead of poll voters are threatened, their houses are attacked”, said Barman.

“Political parties are not allowed to practice their democratic rights. When people are suffocating and trying to get freedom from such a fascist regime, Tripura’s crucial election has knocked on the door”, said Roy Barman.

“To make sure that this poll would not undergo the same rigging, same culture like the previous rigged polls of last five years, this rally has been organized by the citizens”, said Purushottom Roy Barman.

“We have gathered here with one and only target which is to save the Constitution and the Rule of Law and to ensure that the people can cast their democratic rights”, he said.

“Recently, Election Commissioner has announced Zero-Poll violence and assured us about a rigging, violence-free poll but we could not be satisfied with the assurance because earlier also same assurances were given by the Commission but practically no free and fair poll could be held. Every time, Election Commission motivates voters to cast votes but in reality, voters can’t vote............”, said Purushottom Roy Barman citing various poll violence instances of the past which did not even spare the police officials, elderly persons.

Barman further told the ruling BJP that it's a misconception that by rigging and violence, they can win election every time, raising further slogans of "Amar vote Amar Adhikar......." (my vote is my right)
