AGARTALA, Jan 21 (TIWN): Opposition parties and secular, democratic forces have united in Tripura to fight BJP in 2023 Poll. A mass-deputation was placed to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) led by the secular and democratic force. While talking to the CEO Kiren Gitte and SP West, it was heard that Congress MLA Sudip Barman has mentioned before CEO that with the strict action taken against the cops, it’s now proven that the allegations were not untrue.
However, he also mentioned that the opposition did not violate any rule during the rallies.
The statement came after three police officers including Jirania SDPO Himadri Prasad Das were removed from the post and EC also initiated strong efforts to stop poll violence by sending three observers to Tripura to make sure that the security deployment has been done strictly.
Addressing media, former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar appreciating Election Commission’s action and intention about free and fair poll said, “We encourage the effort taken by the EC but when EC assured about Zero-Poll violence it should not be ended in words but displayed in reality”.
Congress leader Asish Saha told TIWN journalist while walking through the rally, “We still have full faith on Election Commission but if this time, a single voter is deprived of her/his right to vote, and any unwanted incident takes place then for that Election Commission will be held responsible”.
Tripura witnessed heavy poll violence, booth rigging, broad daylights attacks on voters but Election dept failed to take action. Even after going to Supreme Court, Democracy could not be saved. After consistent negative experiences in previous polls, the opposition is however not yet fully trusting the Election Dept in Tripura and so the mass deputation was placed seeking free and fair poll.
Tripura Assembly Election is to be held on February 16 and vote results will be published on March 2nd.
