JIRANIA, Jan 20 (TIWN): Centering the attack on Tripura Congress Incharge Dr. Ajay Kumar in Jirania on 18th January, three Police Officers have been suspended by Election Commission of India.
The suspended officials include SDPO Jirania Himadri Prasad Das, OC-Ranir Bazar, and OC-Jirania.
On Wednesday, in the presence of BJP Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, BJP workers allegedly stone pelted at Congress's rally in Jirania and police did not take any action against the attackers. All the police personnel, although were guarding Congress's rally but failed to take spot action against the BJP workers. That reflected Jirania SDPO's partial action to some extent. Earlier also, severe allegations were raised against the SDPO.
Talking to TIWN journalist on Wednesday at GB hospital, Ajay Kumar said, such attacks can not stop Congress, rather Congress will be strengthened. Congress members on Wednesday had launched a bike rally from Astabal stadium and moved across various parts of the city. At that time, while crossing Jirania, a sudden stone pelting started and Congress’s bikes were attacked unprecedently by BJP activists. Security personnel's role also had been unsatisfactory.
Later Congress filed a complaint to the ECI. Based on that, these three cops have been suspended. However, ECI and State Election Dept are still far away from receiving voters' confidence due to the last 5 years of poll rigging, violence and booth capturing witnessed by the people of the state.
