AGARTALA, Dec 17 (TIWN): CPI-M State Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury had slammed BJP led State Govt for extreme misuses of administration for political propaganda and expressed shocks how Deputy CM, DGP were sharing dais with criminal who killed a senior citizen. In this regard, Jitendra Chowdhury has written a letter to the Election Commissioner of India briefing about the situation. Ahead of the letter, Chowdhury told media, “In Charilam 30th November our party worker Sahid Mia who was 75 years old was brutally murdered by BJP in broad daylight. Deputy CM has provoked the incident directly and directly involved with the entire incident. A school was renamed in Charilam after former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee where the guest of honor was Rajkumar Debnath, a Mandal leader and one of the Prime accused of Sahid Mia’s murder case, shared the dais with Deputy CM and all high govt officials”.

"I am attaching herewith an invitation letter from Mrinmoy Bhowmik, HM/Principal in an inauguration programme of “Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Charilam HS School” at 2.00 p.m. on 14th December, 2022. In list of invitee dignitaries it appears that one Sri Rajkumar Debnath was placed as first guests of honor with others. We have reports that, Rajkumar Debnath shared the dais of the inauguration ceremony along with Deputy Chief Minister Sri Jishnu Debbarma and others in that programme where District Police Officials and those of Bishalgarh  Police station were present. You might have known that Sahid Miah, a CPI(M) activist of Uttar Charilam, Sepahijala District was brutally beaten to death in Charilam market by some BJP activists in broad day light for participating in a CPI(M) programme with prior permission of the police and in presence of police on 30th November, 2022. The gang-attacks of the BJP followers targeting a CPI(M) gathering caused serious injury to 12 others including Bhanulal Saha, senior party leader and MLA, Pradesh Roy, District Committee member of the party who is still under treatment in G.B. Panth Hospital, Agartala. The programme of the party was most simple i.e. reopening of Party Office at Charilam Bazar which was forced to keep closed by the BJP terror-mongers followed by mass deputation to the Charilam Block Authority on urgent demands of the locality. The entire incident happened in presence of police.  The incident rocked the entire state and strong protest was voiced by innumerable masses throughout the state", Jitendra Chowdhury wrote to EC.

"Md. Ahid Miah, brother of the victim Sahid Miah lodged an FIR on this terrible incident in Bishalgarh  Police Station. In the FIR, Rajkumar Debnath was named as one of the accused and placed in top of other accused.  In the FIR Ahid Miah also mentioned that the police present on the spot did not take any initiative to save the life of the victim. The officials of the Bishalgarh police Station who are seen overactive against the CPI(M) activists even in any framed up cases, remained just inactive since the day of gustily murder at Chrilam, and had hardly any move to arrest the accused in this incident. If criminals are shielded by the state including the police, as in the case of Rajkumar Debnath,  being a prime accused in murder case, can share the dais of government programme in capacity of being a ruling party worker with the ministers and in presence of district police officials, what remains of law and order in the state. Under the circumstances, for ensuing free, fair and peaceful conduct of the upcoming Assembly election in the state, I request you to take appropriate measures to sensitize the top brasses of the District police administration including those of Sepahijala District to discard partisanship in favour of ruling party act in a manner that deserves by the police in its true spirit", said Jitendra Chowdhury.
