Agartala, January 15 (TIWN): Over 50 people belong to minority community of Radhanagar slum area today organized road blockade following a dispute over cow slaughtering with the people belong to Hindu community last night.
According to a local source, around 10 Muslim families reside in a slum adjacent to Radhanagar Motor Stand. While a section of Muslim residents were slaughtering cattle on an occasion last night, a few of nearby Hindu residents tried to stop them. As a result, a communal clash was adopted in between the residents of that area. Allegedly, they had a hand-to-hand fight following the issue, said the source.
A section of Muslim inhabitants alleged that a Huju from Sonamura, who was there in the slum to slaughter the cow, was attacked by the Hindu people during the clash last night. As a result, the Huju fled away immediately after the conflict.
Demanding arrest of those people who were involved in the attack, people belong to Muslim community of Radhanagar slum organized one-hour road blockade this morning.
After receiving the information on road blockade, Superintendent of Police (SP), West- Bijay Kumar Nag and Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Sadar- Rajendra Dutta along with a vast contingent of police personnel rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Though the police tackled the situation this morning, tension is still persists among the residents of Radhanagar slum following the issue, said a local.
