Two-day Poush Sankranti Mela inaugurated at Tirthamukh

Agartala, January 14 (TIWN): Like every year, two-day long Poush Sankranti Mela on the bank of river Gomati at Tirthamukh was inaugurated today by the Agriculture Minister Aghore Debbarma. The inaugural session was presided over by the chairman of Block Advisory Committee (BAC), Karbook- Fulchandra Tripura.

 A vast number of devotees including tribal and non-tribal people from all over the state are expected to gather in Tirthamukh to celebrate the programme with gaiety and enthusiasm and to take a holy dip in the Dumboor Lake. People flock to the place to shave their head in the name of their ancestors or worship deities and perform various rituals for peace of the departed ancestors' souls, said a local source.

 Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC)- Dr. Ranjit Debbarma graced the inaugural ceremony as chief guest while Jail Minister Manindra Reang and Sabhadipati of Gomati Zilla Parishad Suniti Saha attended the function as guests of honour.

MLAs Yashabir Tripura, Lalit Mohan Tripura, Daniel Jamatia, Priyamani Debbarma, Secretary of Tribal Welfare Department- LH Darlong, Director of Tribal Welfare Department- R Reang and District Magistrate (DM), Gomati- Sonal Goyel were present in the inaugural ceremony as special guests.

Trithamukh, one of the famous shrines in Tripura, is situated at a vicinity to the shrine. Dumboor Lake in Tirthamukh is situated about 58 kilometers from Udaipur and about 110 kilometers from Agartala.
