 100 city buses at Agartala by June 30: HC disposes case; Tripura govt. placed the sanction order

AGARTALA, January 13 (TIWN): With more 100 city buses at the capital city Agartala city by June 30, the High Court on Monday disposed the case of Arpan v/s Tripura Govt. the state govt. on its affidavit placement before the court said that the govt. has already placed the sanction order for 100 buses at the capital. It also said that the tender order has also been floored. Therefore 100 buses will be operation soon by June 30, 2015, said the stet govt. affidavit placed before the court during the hearing of the case.

Earlier during 2014 Chief Justice of High Court of Tripura ordered to introduce 100 new buses from Agartala. It is mentionable that social organization Arpan filed a case on public interest with 24 point proposal. Reviewing the 24 point proposals the Chief Justice of High Court ordered the State Government to arrange to start functioning of 100 new buses and to operate 100 metre auto rickshaws at Agartala.

Besides, High Court also ordered to constitute a committee to fix up the routs of the buses where those would provide to inform the High Court about the steps taken by the Government in response to the services.

 The High Court of Tripura, in its latest verdict on passenger ceiling for motorized auto-rickshaws and allied subjects, said that the state government should revise fare rates every six months. Following which the Tripura Transport department has placed a strict order for the auto rickshaw drivers in order to carry three passengers and to fix rates applicable on all routes alongwith proper stoppages for passengers to embark and disembark.

However on another issue of the petitioner it was said that the Public transport system should be strengthen in service mode and bus stoppage on at least 35 places.  The HC also ordered the next hearing on January 12, 2015, following which the Tripura HC on Monday in its bench of Deepak Gupta and Subhashish Talapatra disposed the hearing of the case accepting the affidavit of the state govt. on its affidavit the state govt. clarified that the sanction order of more 100 buses at the capital city has been sanctioned and the tender has already been floored. And by the month of June 30 the buses will be made operational in the city street.

Following this the state govt. has also framed a 5 member committee under its Urban Transport Secretary.

It is mentionable here that Tripura was sanctioned a project of Rs. 35 crores to operationalize 100 additional buses for the city bus project functional in Agartala city and its suburbs. The Ministry of Urban Development had sanctioned 1080 buses to 13 cities across seven states of the country under its Jawaharlal Nehru urban renewal Mission (JNNURM) project on January 01, 2014.
