Agartala, January 11 (TIWN): All Tripura Diabetic Forum (ATDF) conducted its 17th annual conference at Matangini Pritilata Auditorium here today. The conference was inaugurated by the Health Minister Badal Chowdhury and welcome address was delivered by the chairperson of ATDF conference committee- Dr. Mrinal Kanti Bhowmik.
A Kolkata-based diabetes specialist- Dr. JJ Mukherjee in his speech explained the ways to preventive formulas for diabetes adding, “Making a few lifestyle changes can dramatically lower the chances of developing type. The same changes can also lower the chances of developing heart disease and some cancers.”
He further stated that diabetes is a long-term condition that causes high blood sugar levels. As the risk of cardiovascular disease is much higher for a diabetic, it is crucial that blood pressure and cholesterol levels are monitored regularly, he said. Besides, he urged the people to be aware of diabetes.
“Diabetes is typically a progressive disease, it gradually gets worse and the patient will probably end up have to take insulin, usually in tablet form. Overweight and obese people have a much higher risk of developing diabetes compared to those with a healthy body weight”, he said.
Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Department- M. Nagaraju attended the programme as guest of honour and delivered hid essential speech. Dr. Sajal Debbarma, secretary of ATDF submitted the secretarial reports in the conference.
Besides, the chief guest and Health Minister Badal Chowdhury presented the Dasharath Deb Memorial Award to the best controlled diabetes patient while president of ATDF- Dr. Sushanta Kumar Banik delivered his presidential address.
