12 malaria patients fled from Teliamura hospital: 7 returned; Lacks awareness among villagers

AGARTALA, January 11 (TIWN): On another bizarre incident at Teliamura at least 12 malaria detected patients reported to have fled from the hospital. Amongst 12 the concerned administration succeeded to bring back at least 7 patients to the hospital, said SDM Teliamura today. The incident occurred on January 8 when at least 12 admitted patients detected with malaria fever fled from the hospital.

Talking to TIWN today SDM Teliamura Bimbisar Bhattacharjee informed that at least twelve malaria detected admitted patients fled from the hospital and later found to have returned to their village. But out of 12 at least 7 were brought to the hospital again. Briefing the incident Mr. Bhattacharjee said that on January 8 during the health camp at Teliamura Tripurabosti at least 22 villagers were detected with malaria fever. And later releasing 5 after primary treatment, 17 were taken to the hospital, said Bhattacharjee. But on their sudden drive 12 admitted patients fled from the hospital, following which the police were informed and later the concerned administration along with the team of police conducting a search in operation at Tripurabosti village the patients were found living their normal life, with fever, said Bhattacharjee today talking to TIWN.

Adding to that he said that visiting the village the administration managed to bring back at least 7 malaria detected patients to the hospital.  Asked about the reason, he said that a section of villagers were found to be suffering from financial crisis and this might be the only reason why they fled from the hospitals. “But we the concerned administration has been managing to take the responsibility of their expenditure as per the protocol provisioned for the malaria patients”, said Bhattacharjee. He further added that there is also a lack of awareness among the villagers.

Sidelining the issue of the recent status of the rural hospitals of the state, Mr. Bhattacharjee making it factual that most of the rural govt. hospitals lacks basic infrastructure but along with the passage of the time everything has been changing positive. He said that a new hospital building is now under construction at Teliamura near the block office.
