Indo-Bangla Border Conference ends with commitment to strengthen cooperation: Indo-Bangla districts signed understandings; Next meeting likely on February

AGARTALA, January 10 (TIWN): Highlighting the fact that both India and Bangladesh attach the highest importance to their bilateral relations, both nations reiterated their commitment to further expand and strengthen mutual cooperation on security and border related issues. The Indo-Bangla Border Conference ends today with the districts of Tripura and Bangladesh committed to strengthen their cooperation in all border related issues.

The individual agenda between the districts of the Tripura and the Bangladesh districts and the joint decision has been signed today.

Putting stress on the existence of the insurgent camps at the border area the Dhalai district of Tripura and Bangladesh Rangamatia district has signed the understandings to restrict insurgencies, where the the Bangladesh delegations has been asked to take a necessary steps against it. The two districts also came to a conclusion to share their own intelligence. “the delegations assured us to extend their cooperation and any untoward incidents will not be tolerated”, said Dhalai DM and Collector Milind Dharmrao Ramteke.

Briefing the discussion held during the Indo-Bangla Joint border conference Dhalai DM and Collector Milind Dharmrao Ramteke said that on their own individual agenda the Gomati district has signed an understandings with Khagrachhar district of Bangladesh, Sepahijala with Comilla district and South district of Tripura made a commitment with at least 4 districts of Bangladesh comprising of Feni and other.

Later talking to TIWN Sepahijala DM and Collector Prashant Kumar Goyal briefing the same added that another such meeting between the rest of the districts will be held between Tripura and Bangladesh is likely to be held on February 2015. "We have discussed issues like joint border management, border smuggling, human trafficking, border crimes, infiltration and cross border movements of insurgents or terrorists”, said Goyal.

“We pledged to cooperate with each other in this regard. Both side attached importance for better coordination in grassroots level to address the issues and improve relations between the two countries," he said. 

It is to be mentioned here that during the joint border conference Bangladesh has decided to set up five more border outposts in the Chittagong Hill Tract areas bordering Dhalai district of Tripura for better vigil and stop cross border movement of insurgents. 

A 30-member Bangladeshi delegation, led by District Magistrate of Feni Humayan Kabir Khanderkar, arrived here on January 8 to attend the India-Bangladesh Joint Border Conference. The Bangladeshi team comprises five district magistrates, representatives of police, paramilitary forces and border guards. 

It is also mentionable here that one of the major aspect in respect of anti-insurgency operation is the reported change in attitude by the security forces of Bangladesh against the Indian insurgent groups including NLFT and ATTF. Source report indicates that in the recent period from November 23, 2014 to December 3, 2014 Bangladesh army, RAB and BGB conducted operations in Chittagang Hill Tract. And in course of this operations few NLFT (BM) camps has reportedly been destroyed and huge arms and ammunitions has been seized.
