AGARTALA, January 11 (TIWN): Ahead of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) election Border Security Force has intensified its patrolling along the 856 km long Indo-Bangladesh border in Tripura to check infiltration into the Indian territory, said Inspector General of BSF Tripura frontier B.N. Sharma.Taking to TIWN Inspector General of BSF Tripura frontier B.N. Sharma said that BSF has requested its Bangladeshi counterpart, BGB to destroy 32 camps of northeast insurgent group in Bangladesh. "Despite a pro-active role of the security forces in Bangladesh to dismantle the camps of insurgents from the region, at least 32 camps still exist there. BSF officials have handed over a list of the camps to them and asked them to demolish the camps," B.N. Sharma said. BSF also requested for early solution of disputes regarding erection of barbed wire fencing in some patches of the international border, IG mentioned.

Security has been beefed up in poll-bound areas and BSF strength in Indo-Bangladesh border was increased substantially while counter-insurgency operations were intensified besides enhancement of security in all vital locations, B.N. Sharma added.

B.N. Sharma further said that the insurgency is still a major challenge when it comes to internal security in Tripura though it suffered a lot during the past few years.

Sharma said that ATTF, one of the frontline insurgent groups is on the brink of collapse as its archrival NLFT had snatched away almost all weapons, according to intelligence inputs and the morale of NLFT is also very low as its cadre strength has scaled down to 100-120.

However, the IG warned that they (NLFT) are desperately trying to boost the strength by recruiting new guys during the winter keeping in mind of the upcoming TTAADC election slated for 2015. Sharma further said, "We have credential inputs about the existence of around 32 hideouts in Bangladesh in spite of their efforts to flush out insurgents holed up in their soil. There are reports of procuring Bangladesh ration cards by some rebel leaders and staying there with their families", IG mentioned.
