AGARTALA, January 10 (TIWN): On another major hurdle after the Bangladesh political turmoil the Tripura-Bangla trade has come to a major halt today. The arrival of the Bangladesh delegations here in Tripura and the damage of the weigh bridge at Integrated Check post (ICP) has hit the trade today, said secretary of Tripura Export-Import Association Habul Biswas. The movement of the trucks has been clogged as the Bangladesh delegations were scheduled to return today.Talking to TIWN today, secretary of Tripura Export-Import Association Habul Biswas said that though the trade between Tripura and Bangladesh resumed today after a major halt due to a political turmoil at Bangladesh, but the movement of the vehicles has been clogged for the scheduled return of the Bangladesh delegations that arrived here in Tripura for a meeting.
The movement has been clogged for the last couple of hours, said Biswas. He also said that the damage of the weigh bridge at ICP has hit the movement of the vehicles. The loaded trucks from Bangladesh are standing in a long queue for the last couple of hours, said Biswas.
Sideling another issue when asked about the profit status of the newly launched Integrated Check Post (ICP) Mr. Biswas said that it has been since 3 years that the volume of the profit rested at the same place, and has no major change. “The disruption of the rail service here in Tripura has helped the ICP a bit in trade”, said Biswas.
It is mentionable here that Exports and imports through Akhaura land port here and other trade points in the northeastern region have remained hit since Monday as political hitches forced traders to suspend their business.
According to the officials about 200 loaded trucks enter Tripura and business worth Rs 1.5 crore is conducted during normal a normal day in Akhaura ICP. Notably, the first of its kind multi-facility Akhaura Integrated Check Post along Indo-Bangla border was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde a week ago. The ICP, built at a cost of Rs 74 crore, has a modern terminal building, well equipped customs and immigration centres, high security equipment, weigh bridges.
