Kailasahar, January 9 (TIWN): Residents of Birchandranagar Panchayat area under Chandipur block today organized a road blockade on Kailasahar-Fatikray road at Hower Bazar seeking drinking water.
A section of villagers alleged that they have been facing acute drinking water crisis for over five years. Despite several requests, CPI-M ruled Panchayat and block authorities did not take any initiative to solve the long-term problem, they said.
At such situation, the villagers are passing days by drinking poor quality water of ponds, river and other water bodies located in the area. All the pipelines for water supply are lying in poor condition for long time, they added.
After a period of three hours of road blockade, Executive Engineer of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) Department- Chandan Paul rushed to the spot and withdrew the road blockade by assuring them to supply drinking water by mobile tankers.
Due to conversion of Kailasahar-Kumarghat road into double-lane road, all the vehicles use this road as alternative way for moving. As a result, today’s road blockade created a very problematic situation to the school, office goers and common people.
