AGARTALA, January 9 (TIWN): India-Bangladesh joint border conference Jan 8 to 10th second day talk to settle various disputes along the border shared by the two neighbors. A meeting today kicked off at Agartala State Guest House. A 23 member Bangladeshi delegation, led by Deputy Commissioner of Feni Humayan Kabir Khanderkar, arrived here on Thursday to attend the India-Bangladesh Joint Border Conference today.

The delegation includes five deputy commissioners bordering southern part of Tripura, who were received by the DM of Sepahijal district Dr Prashant Kumar Goyal.

The meeting today stressed on the importance of improving the relation at the grassroots level and issues like smuggling, trans-border crime, narcotics and other important issues. Talking to TIWN today the Dhalai District DM and Collector Milind Ramteke said that the meeting was held today between the Dhalai district and the Bangladesh Rangamatia district, where several key issues has been brought in discussion.

Asked about the key issues, he said that the meeting today discussed the existence of insurgent camps at the border area and prevention of border crimes like minor trafficking business. He said that the BGB has also decided to extend its border outpost.

Besides, the joint patrolling issue has also been discussed and along with the Bangladesh delegation assured to extend their every cooperation with the Tripura and other bordering area states, said Ramteke.

Later talking to TIWN, Sepahijala District DM and Collector Prashant Kumar Goyal said that on January 10 the decisions between the India and Bangladesh will be finalized with the end of the meeting started today.  

It is to be mentioned here that the Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC) officials said Dhaka-Agartala bus service remained stopped for the last four days due to some problems in the neighbouring country.

Bangladesh and India share a 4,096-kilometer (2,545-mile)-long international border, the fifth-longest land border in the world, including 262 km in Assam, 856 km in Tripura, 18 km in Mizoram, 443 km in Meghalaya, and 2,217 km in West Bengal. The Bangladeshi Divisions of Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Sylhet and Chittagong are situated along the border. A number of pillars mark the border between the two states. Small demarcated portions of the border are fenced on both sides.
