Agartala, January 9 (TIWN): The leaders and members of Tripura Pump Operator Union (TPOU), state committee today staged submitted a deputation to the Dy. Chief Engineer of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) Department and placed a memorandum with 5-point charter of demands.
Altogether 2820 pump operators from all over the state have participated in a sit-in- demonstration near Vivekananda statue at Astabal here today, said secretary of TPOU state committee- Phanindra Sarkar over telephone. All the pump operators started gathering at Battala and staged a rally traversing through different city roads and later joined the demonstration.
He further stated that the pump operators could not submit deputation to the Director of Panchayat Department as he got engaged in a ministerial-level important meeting today but he assured to take the deputation on January 15.
In the demonstration, CITU’s central committee member- Nirmal Roy, TPOU state committee president- Bijoy Roy and many others delivered their essential speeches.
The 5-point demands of TPOU are; to regularized all the part time pump operators engaged under any department, to provide minimum wages declared by the state government, to take initiative for re-open all the pump and RRPs are lying in poor condition by repairing, a family member must be appointed in the same place if any operator dies accidentally during working period and to publish seniority list of pump operators.
After studying the demands, the Dy. Chief Engineer of DWS admitted the logicality of demands and assured to take proper initiative within short period, said Sarkar.
